ONE MARINE were delighted to be invited to a rather special dinner Fowey’s Old Quay House Hotel – just in time for the Cornish boutique hotel The Old Quay House to welcome a new head chef to the team.
Richard Massey has recently moved to Cornwall from Scotland, where he was head chef at Ullinish Country Lodge on the Isle of Skye for three years.
He began his career in the kitchen at the age of 16, and has worked in the restaurant industry for almost a decade.
Richard said, “I am looking forward to making my mark at The Old Quay House. I was keen to move down to the South West to be closer to family, and was also ready to take on a new challenge.
“My style of cooking is modern British: I like to take classic dishes and ingredients and give them a modern influence. One of the most popular on the menu is a Kilhallon beef fillet – a refined take on a Sunday roast, and supplied by local Fowey butcher Kittow’s.”
Using local, seasonal ingredients, and a taste of what Cornwall has to offer, is key to the ethos of the hotel and restaurant. This will continue under Richard’s leadership in the kitchen.
Martin Nicholas, regional manager for Providence Hospitality said, “We are delighted to welcome Richard to the hotel as head chef, and have been receiving great feedback since he joined us last month.
“He brings experience and ideas to the role and we are looking forward to working with him to develop our restaurant here at The Old Quay House.”
The Old Quay House Hotel in Fowey has had updates made to its restaurant and bedrooms over winter. The team worked closely with local interior designer Kieron Cockley of Brocante, introducing new furniture and colour palettes.
Lighter wood tables and dark grey upholstered dining chairs have created a more comfortable dining space to complement the waterside terrace.
The Old Quay House Hotel is located in the centre of Fowey, and immediately on the water’s edge, with a restaurant and rooms boasting estuary views. Originally built in 1889 as a seamen’s mission, the whitewashed Victorian property first opened as a hotel in autumn 2003 following a full refurbishment.
Bed and breakfast rates start at £190 for a classic double, based on two sharing.
‘Q’ restaurant at The Old Quay House is open for dinner from 6.30pm to 9pm daily, and lunch throughout the summer season from Wednesday to Monday, 12.00pm to 3pm.
ONE MARINE are pleased to be able to support the Old Quay House and look forward to dining with Richard again!
